A CONCERNED member of the public has claimed that 'sexual activity' taking place in a wooded area of Irvine is being "overlooked".
The worried local, who wished to remain anonymous, said they first became aware of the issue back in the summer holidays.
They claimed to be driving along Shewalton Road in the town, before pulling into the rest area across from the entrance to GSK.
The person, who was with their young child, stated they then left their vehicle to sit at one of the picnic benches available at the location.
At this time, they recalled seeing "several males mulling around" before they then "disappeared into the bushes" at the public footpath nearby.
The person said they were later made aware that the area was regularly used as a "meet up place" for sexual activity.
They added that upon returning to the area earlier this week, a number of items related to the alleged behaviour were found lying over the forest floor.
The person claimed to have reported the matter to Police Scotland, both in the summer and again in recent days, to no avail.
They said: “It’s disgusting, it’s very much still going on. It’s shocking, I reported this months ago and nothing has been done. I’m absolutely disgusted.
“It shocks me that something like that is being overlooked. It’s just not on.”
Police Scotland say they have not received any reports of this nature and that the matter is "not an ongoing issue" they are aware of.
A spokesperson said: “We would encourage anyone with concerns about criminality in their community to report this to police on 101. Or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
