POLICE Scotland says that officers will be paying extra attention to Kilwinning Main Street.
It comes after concerns were raised by locals with regards to prohibited vehicles using the streets "as a means of general access".
A traffic order was put in place at the beginning of 2021 to enhance the area as a pedestrianised zone.
The order is in place between 10.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday each week and prohibits regular vehicles from accessing the one-way street.
Between these hours, only emergency vehicles and funeral cars accessing Abbey Church are also permitted to access the road.
Out with these hours, access is increased but only for permit holders, delivery lorries, blue badge holders and taxis, restrictions still apply to regular vehicles.
Police have reportedly been informed that the order has been ignored in recent weeks, and as a result, further action is planned to combat the issue.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Communities in Kilwinning have told us their concerns of prohibited vehicles using Main Street as a general means of access.
"Local officers are providing extra attention to the area - and would like to remind everyone that using a prohibited vehicle on a restricted road is subject to a £50, non-endorsable fine."
