AN AYRSHIRE man has been appointed agricultural director for the region, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire, Dumfries and Galloway by Virgin Money.

The appointment of Kilbirnie-born Craig Fulton, who now lives in Dalry, is part of a strategy to enhance the bank’s longstanding support for the UK’s farming sector.

He formerly served as agri-business manager for the same area, but will now have the opportunity to give his clients in Scotland the assurance of personal, director-level attention at a time of unprecedented challenges for the industry.

Craig said growing up in a rural area sparked his keen interest in agriculture.

He holds a BA in Social Sciences from Stirling University, and also completed an HNC in Social Sciences at Reid Kerr College in Paisley.

In 2017, he graduated from the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership Programme, gaining valuable insights into farming, politics, and leadership within the industry.

Craig said: “It has always been a privilege to support and assist the local rural community in achieving their aspirations - whether by providing funding or guidance when needed.

"It’s great to see that Virgin Money shares this commitment and is looking to expand its work in the sector.

"I look forward to continuing this support and serving our Agri customers across the West of Scotland.”

Stephen Buchan, Virgin Money’s head of agriculture for Scotland, said: “Craig has been an outstanding asset to our clients for around 20 years, and his promotion reflects the trust both Virgin Money and farming customers have in his expertise.

"As agricultural director, he will continue to provide dedicated, personal support while also shaping and expanding our services to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.”

Craig has been with the bank since 2002 and has worked in the agricultural sector since 2008.

Craig became a small business manager for agri in 2012 before transitioning to an agri relationship manager role in 2014.
