A DRIVER was taken to hospital after reportedly being attacked by a passenger on board an Irvine bus.
The alleged incident is said to have taken place on a Stagecoach number 11 service travelling through the town on its route from Kilmarnock to Ardrossan on Monday, April 7.
Eyewitness accounts shared on social media claim that the driver was repeatedly struck whilst in control of the moving vehicle.
A number of passengers were reported to be on board at the time, with one stating the incident made their "life flash before my eyes".
Emergency services were later alerted to the matter after the bus was pulled over near Annick Road in Irvine at around 12.30pm.
Police Scotland say an investigation has now been launched after they were alerted to an alleged assault.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 12.35pm on Monday, April 7, 2025, we received a report of an assault on board a bus which was travelling on Annick Road, Irvine.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
Stagecoach West Scotland confirmed that one person was taken to hospital following an incident on one of its services.
No further details were disclosed, however, the company said it is working with police as investigations continue.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach West Scotland said: "We can confirm that there was an incident involving one of our vehicles in Irvine at approximately 12.30pm on Monday, April 7.
"Emergency services attended the scene, and one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
"The safety and wellbeing of our staff and passengers are our primary concern, and we are working with Police Scotland to gather further details about the incident."
