A MAJOR change is coming to one of Irvine's most famous venues.
The Ship owner Christopher Murray announced that he would be "handing over the reins" at the gastro pub.
The move will bring to an end a spell of 36 years with the same family at the helm.
It is understood that the venue will be taken on by the team from The Red Lion bar in Prestwick after they teased a video of the Irvine venue alongside a caption "one iconic Ayrshire pub becomes two".
Christopher announced his decision in a social media statement.
He said: "Well folks, after an emotional 36-year journey, the time has come for me to hand over the reins of this incredible place.
"What began as a family venture with three Murrays at the helm, now comes down to just one - and I know in my heart it's time for a new chapter with fresh energy and ideas to carry The Ship forward.
"This has been both the hardest and easiest decision I've had to make. Hard because of what this place means to me. Easy because I know it's the right time.
"Letting go is strange, like losing something that lives in your bones, but I trust that what comes next will be just as special and just as loved."
Christopher has announced the decision just over two years after he brought the iconic venue back to Irvine.
The Ship closed in July 2020, following the death of one of its then-owners, Jamie Murray.
The gastro pub - which dates back to 1567 - was listed for sale several times in the following year.
Renovations began in late-2021, before Christopher announced he would be returning at the helm in January 2023.
Since then, the return has been warmly welcomed on Irvine harbourside with Christopher hoping the new team will be as well received.
He continued: "I know you'll give the new team the same warmth and support you've shown me and my family over these past 36 years.
"The Ship will always hold a piece of my heart and I know she'll be in good hands.
"I won't be going far, just quietly slipping into the background while this wonderful place sails on.
"Thank you. For everything. Fail we may, sail we must."
