A WOMAN is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to keeping more than a dozen puppies in poor conditions and separate from their mothers.
Julie Alison Taylor admitted neglecting the pets and selling them without a licence and at her address on David Dale Avenue, Stewarton.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, the 41-year-old admitted carrying out a licenced activity of selling animals as pets, without authority or licence between July 30, 2023 and March 26, 2024.
While responsible for animals, namely 16 puppies of varying breeds, she failed to take steps to ensure the needs of the animals were met from December 19, 2023 to March 27, 2024 at her home and elsewhere.
Court papers stated that she failed to keep the puppies in good bodily condition, and also separated them from their mothers.
She also failed to provide them with suitable and hygienic living conditions, failed to provide a suitable and hygienic feeding environment, and failed to provide suitable hygienic bedding areas.
Taylor also admitted failing to provide adequate enrichment to encourage them to display normal behaviours and failing to ensure that they were provided vet treatment and that they were adequately protected against disease.
She pleaded guilty when she appeared at court represented by solicitor Graeme Cunningham, with not guilty pleas accepted regarding 20 further allegations.
Sentencing was deferred for criminal justice social work reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
She was ordained to appear at court at a later date.
