A NUMBER of special events are being held in Irvine this week to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The town's Coastwatch Scotland group have drawn up a full schedule to mark the landmark occasion on May 8, which signalled the end of World War Two in Europe.
Proceedings get underway at 9am on Thursday with a flag raising at the front shore car park on the harbourside.
Further acts of commemoration are planned including a service which will be held at Irvine War Memorial at 4pm.
Then people will have an opportunity to try out the sport of paddleboarding, with a taster session being held on the River Irvine at 4.30pm.
The evening will continue with the Irvine Sea Cadets staging a training session for people to watch at the same location from 6pm.
Janice Marshall Stage School will also perform a dance routine at the front shore car park at 6.35pm.
A community parade featuring groups from across the area will leave the Scottish Maritime Museum at 8pm and Irvine Sea Cadets will salute the parade at 8.10pm.
Irvine’s fallen from the war will be remembered at 8.30pm at the front shore car park.
There will be a World War Two community sing-along at the same venue at 8.45pm.
The lowering of standards will take place at the front shore car park at 9.25pm and the reading of a tribute will take place, followed by a beacon lighting at 9.30pm.
