THE new Starbucks franchise in Irvine has now officially opened.

The Riverway retail park store welcomed customers for the first time at 7am on Thursday, July 3.

The first 50 people through the door were also treated to a special goody bag to mark the occasion.

Various coffee tastings and sampling events are also said to be taking place throughout the day until closing time at 8pm.

The global coffee giant says that 20 new jobs have been created in the local area as a result of the opening.

The shop has undergone a complete transformation, having previously operated as a branch of Tony Macaroni.

Starbucks branding now covers the building, which becomes the second large coffee shop within the retail park - with a Costa Coffee franchise located only metres away.
