PART of a major North Ayrshire road is to close whilst an "essential" roadworks project is carried out.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be completing the scheme on the A78 - between the Meadowhead and Newhouse roundabouts - from Monday, December 8, until Thursday, December 11.
Coring is to be carried out on this section of the route between 8pm and 6pm each night.
This will see an overnight carriageway closure, in both directions, from 8pm on Monday until 6am the following morning.
During this time, traffic will be diverted to exit the A78 and follow the A759 and the A737 to rejoin.
Temporary traffic lights will also be in operation at Meadowhead Roundabout to manage traffic where the diversion route meets the circulatory.
The remainder of the work will be carried out under overnight single lane closures. All traffic management will be removed by 6am on December 11.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
The scheme will be weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
