MY wishes for the festive period are only worth anything if you are with me.
And my wish for next year is the same as it is every year. For tomorrow to be better than today.
And if we work together, we can make it so.
We live in times that can seem full of gloom and doom. War in Gaza and Ukraine and the threat of a war with Russia. The cost-of-living crisis that for too many of us has become a way of living crisis. And that is before we consider the existential crisis of climate change.
Look at things that way and it can become a doom loop that makes it difficult to get out of your bed in the morning.
But there is something we can all choose to do to take each of these challenges on. And it starts with hope. To have the audacity to hope that we can make our world a better place to live and to live better lives if we believe in ourselves.
I have no magic formula for how life can be better. But I have a very practical formula that works.
That we believe in ourselves and each other. That we care about our communities and everyone in them from the least to the greatest.
That there is nothing to fear more than fear itself. And that our ambition should never have limits.
To you and yours, I hope you have a restful Christmas and a happy New Year.
