THE Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has issued a festive message to ensure communities have a safe, peaceful and enjoyable holiday season.
Area Commander Kevin Murphy is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for East, North and South Ayrshire.
LSO Murphy also has some safety messaging to share with the community ahead of Christmas and New Year.
He said: “On behalf of everyone at the SFRS, I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
“Be aware of festive hazards around your home and keep you and your loved ones safe.
“Keep candles away from Christmas trees, wrapped presents, decorations, and other flammable objects and never leave a candle unattended.
“Always remember to unplug fairy lights and other electrical decorations when you leave the house or go to bed.
“Never leave cooking unattended and don’t mix cooking with drinking alcohol."
During adverse weather, LSO Murphy has this advice:
“In snow and icy weather, drive to the conditions and don’t make any unnecessary journeys.
“Avoid walking near to frozen water and never walk on frozen water as it can often not bear the weight of the person on it.
“When planning your journey home, stick to main routes that are lit.”
Crews right across Ayrshire have had a busy year working to keep communities safe.
LSO Murphy added: "We've delivered Fire Skills courses to a range of young people to share with them transferrable skills for use in later life and have carried out home fire safety visits to vulnerable households.
"Key safety guidance on topics like road safety, staying safe in and around water and fire-related antisocial behaviour has also been shared with schools, community groups and households across the area."
