THE Post Office has provided an update following the unexpected 'closure' of its Irvine branch.

The facility, inside The Hardware Store on High Street, has been shut in recent days with customers raising concerns that this may be permanent.

Though clarity has now been provided that the service will only be unavailable on a temporary basis.

However, it is said that it is not yet clear when the branch will be open to the public again.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Irvine Post Office is temporarily closed for unforeseen reasons. It is not known when the branch will re-open.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause customers.

"Alternative branches are at Girdle Toll, which is 1.76 miles away, and Dreghorn is 2.7 miles away.”
