THE Scottish Maritime Museum will host a free afternoon of Polish sea shanties for the public.
The event will take place in Irvine at 3pm on Sunday, May 3, as a celebration of the opening of Scottish Maritime Impressions, a seascape exhibition by Polish photographer and sailor Mariusz Bartosik.
The Two Shores – Sea Shanty Concert will be performed by the Waldek Mieczkowski Band, one of Poland’s leading maritime and folk music groups.
Eva Bukowska, exhibitions and events officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: "We are thrilled to welcome the Waldek Mieczkowski Band. Their energy is infectious.
"Once they hit the stage, it feels more like being on deck than in a museum.
"With both the exhibition and concert, we want to give visitors a wonderful experience and an insight into the shared maritime traditions of our nations as well as celebrate Scotland’s vibrant Polish community."
The band is led by long-time ship captain Waldek Mieczkowski.
He is joined by accordionist Jacek Jakubowski and bassist Krzysztof Janiszewski.
The concert and exhibition are presented under the honorary patronage of the mayor of Gdańsk.
The event is supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh, the POLSKI MOST Polish Association in Scotland and the RNLI.
