THE owners of an Irvine sports bar hope to swell the funds of a charity which is close to their hearts by backing Scotland’s World Cup campaign.
Bar 10 in Bridgegate, which offers ten pin bowling, a golf simulator and karaoke room, has secured a licence to screen Scotland's World Cup games against Haiti, Morocco and Brazil.
The venue is selling tickets to watch the matches at £5 a head, with the proceeds going to Irvine and Troon Cancer Care.
Rosemary Reid co-owns the bar, which opened last December, with her husband Alex Harper and daughter Kay Abercrombie.
She said: “It is quite a big deal that Scotland have qualified and hopefully we will sell 200 tickets for each game – that would be good.
“The Licensing Board only granted it last week but hopefully people will come along and I am sure there will be a good atmosphere. Because they are ticketed events, you need door stewards.
“We are supporting Troon and Irvine Cancer Care through the sale of tickets as they provided an invaluable service to me when I had cancer.
"I now have the all-clear although I have a couple of side effects and go to the hospital every couple of months. We want to raise as much as we can.
“You send them your appointments and they come and pick you up at your house. We raised money for them previously when we had the R and A Sports Bar in Irvine and raised about £1,000 just after my treatment was finished.
"We organised a raffle and race day. They are a voluntary organisation and rely on donations.
“Hopefully people will come on and watch other matches during the World Cup like the quarter-finals and the final.
"We are Scotland fans and I remember Ally’s Tartan Army from the past. Hopefully people will come in with their Scotland strips to watch the matches and we can progress in the tournament.”
