A CAPACITY audience filled the Wellwood Burns Centre and Museum last week for a lively 'Burns Question Time,' chaired by past president Angus Middleton.
President Peter Latham opened the evening before questions were put to a distinguished panel featuring international award-winning novelist Andrew O’Hagan and well-known Burnsians Professors Gerry Carruthers, Pauline Mackay and David Purdie.
Attendees travelled from across Scotland - including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Greenock, St Andrews, Ayr, Dalry, Dundonald, Kilwinning, Largs, New Cumnock and Skelmorlie - reflecting the wide appeal of the event.
The club’s longest serving director and honorary president, Bill Cowan, described the gathering as “one of the best nights ever held at Wellwood and made me proud to be a member of Irvine Burns Club”. He praised both the turnout and the quality of discussion.
The evening forms part of the club’s ongoing bicentenary celebrations.
The next major event will be a three-day exhibition at Wellwood from August 7-9, showcasing highlights from the organisation’s 200-year history.
