A CHARITY football match is set to take place next month as two North Ayrshire sides face off for a fantastic cause.
Sunday amateur teams The Elms AFC and Ardeer Thistle AFC will go head-to-head on July 5, at the Ardeer Stadium (2pm KO).
They will do so in a bid to raise funds for the Glasgow Children's Hospital, specifically the Schiehallion Unit Cancer Ward.
This cause was selected as the match will be held in memory of 'wee warrior' Ava Nelson.
The Kilwinning girl tragically died in April 2024 following a brave two-year cancer battle.
The Pennyburn Primary pupil had fought courageously after being diagnosed with glioma, a highly aggressive brain tumour, and received much of her treatment at the Glasgow Children's Hospital.
Her step-dad, Eddie Renor, is manager of The Elms, while Ava's mum, Jackie Dunlop, plays a key role in running the team.
The club crest also includes Ava's name as a permanent tribute to her.
Eddie added: "This match will be a close one to our hearts as it's in memory of my step-daughter Ava Nelson, who passed away to brain cancer after a long and hard two-year battle.
"The charity that we have chosen to give to is Glasgow Children's Hospital, where our wee warrior used to attend while in receipt of her treatments and admissions.
"We, as a family, understand how costly it can be having a lengthy or unexpected stay in hospital and we just want to round all the boys up and lots of people and try and raise a good amount for such a worthy charity.
"We would love to try and get as many people there to help and support such an amazing charity.
"There will be refreshments available to purchase and after the game, everyone is invited back to The Alton pub in Kilwinning, where food will be provided."
Those wishing to attend the match can head along on the day, with admission priced at £3.
