A KIND-HEARTED Dreghorn sports club are set to take on a mammoth 24-hour fundraiser later this month.
The Townend Squash Club is preparing to host the colossal challenge at their home on Townfoot from Saturday, July 18 into Sunday, July 19.
The charity 'Squashathon' will see members keep a squash ball in play for a full 24 hours, with at least two players on court throughout the entire fundraiser.
Players from across the club will take turns covering the day, evening and overnight slots in a major team effort to support the Ayrshire Hospice.
It will be an almighty test of endurance, though it is something which a few may be familiar with from when the club last took on the challenge in 2014.
A spokesperson said: "This challenge brings together the past and present of our club. Some of the players who took part all those years ago are still stepping on court, while former juniors from that original event are now fully-fledged adult members of the club.
"It’s a brilliant reflection of the community, longevity, and love for the game that makes Townend so special."
Members say that raising funds for such a worthy cause will make their endeavours more than worthwhile.
A spokesperson added: "We’re proud to be raising money for Ayrshire Hospice, a charity that provides outstanding care and support to people across Ayrshire living with life-limiting illnesses.
"The hospice offers specialist palliative care, pain and symptom management, and emotional support not only for patients, but also for their families when they need it most.
"Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference - helping ensure that this vital service can continue to support our local community."
A fundraising page has been set up in support of the event and is available online at justgiving.com/page/townendsquash-athon2026.
There will also be plenty on offer, beyond the challenge itself, for anyone who attends.
Alongside the 'Squashathon', the club will host a packed programme of activities for members, families, sponsors and visitors.
Highlights include coaching sessions with current Scotland internationals John Meehan and Andrew Glen, followed by an exhibition match between the pair.
There will also be opportunities for friends, family members and sponsors to try squash through free introductory coaching sessions, as well as social activities, food and a charity concert during the Saturday evening.
