Plans to bring former Kilwinning Post Office back into use

It comes as plans were lodged to change the use of the building which was closed more than three years ago.

The Main Street Premises ceased operations in January 2023 following the collapse of RS McColl's who previously operated the store.

The property was subsequently listed for sale though little movement was seen until this month.

Proposals have now been brought forward to bring the prominent town centre building back to live.

Harry Blair, of Elliot Property Ltd, has applied to subdivide the current building to form three separate units.

He also also seeking permission to change the present use of each of these areas.

Two unit would be created within the current front portion of the building with frontage onto Main Street.

One would provide space for a prospective coffee shop or café whilst the other could be used for retail space.

A third unit would be formed at the rear of the building with a frontage onto Lauchlan Way. It is proposed that this would also provide a retail opportunity.

Planning documents add: "It is proposed to subdivide the unit into three separate units.

"A new entrance lobby will be created to Main Street and an existing window, currently blocked up, will be reinstated.

"By subdividing the unit into three separate units will make the spaces more commercially appealing to potential tenants."

Plans were lodged with North Ayrshire Council earlier this week and are currently pending consideration.

It is anticipated that a decision will be made on proposals within the next two months.
