A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a "suspicious fire" at a shop in Kilwinning.
The 16-year-old male is due to appear in court at a later date in connection with the incident at the town's Tesco Express store.
Police were called to the Main Street building in the early hours of Sunday, July 12.
One fire appliance was also sent to the scene as the blaze was extinguished around one hour later.
There were no reported injuries in relation to the matter however, the branch was forced to close for the entirety of the following day.
The day following the fire, Police Scotland confirmed that an investigation had been launched with the blaze deemed "wilful".
An update provided on Thursday, July 23, confirmed that a teenager had now been charged.
A force spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a suspicious fire on Sunday, July 12, 2026
"Police were called to the incident on Main Street, Kilwinning around 3.45am.
"The male has been released on an undertaking and is due to appear in court at a later date."
