NHS honours 162 staff for more than 40 years of service

The event, held at University Hospital Crosshouse, recognised the dedication of long-serving NHS Ayrshire & Arran staff who have supported patients and communities for over four decades.

Lesley Bowie, chair of the Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, said: "Reaching more than 40 years of service is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to the dedication, compassion and commitment of these remarkable colleagues.

"Across four decades, they have touched countless lives, supported communities through times of change, and helped shape the services we provide today.

"It was a privilege to celebrate their achievements and thank them for the difference they continue to make every day."

Guests enjoyed afternoon tea and shared memories of their time in the NHS.

Each honouree received a commemorative pin and card in recognition of their service.

The celebration cake was cut by the organisation's two longest-serving staff members, Aileen Brown, a health visitor at Holmhead Medical Practice, and Robert Johnstone, an operating department practitioner.

Gordon James, chief executive, said: "We are incredibly fortunate to have 162 colleagues who have devoted more than four decades of their working lives to caring for others and supporting our services.

"It was a real pleasure to meet so many of them and hear the inspiring stories, memories and experiences from their NHS journeys.

"These celebrations were about more than recognising years of service.

"They were about celebrating the people behind those years – colleagues whose dedication, resilience and passion have made a lasting impact on our organisation and the communities we serve."

He offered thanks on behalf of NHS Ayrshire & Arran for their continued contributions.
