Irvine Rugby Club bid to raise funds to support young people

The event invites grassroots sports groups from across the region to compete over a four‑week fundraising period, with every penny raised staying directly with the clubs.

Funds raised by Irvine RFC will be used to support children from disadvantaged areas who face financial and social barriers to sport.

The club plans to provide free rugby kit, subsidised membership fees, transport support, and equipment for its diversionary rugby programme.

It offers structured evening and weekend sessions aimed at reducing antisocial behaviour and giving young people positive routines.

Clubs taking part also have the opportunity to secure additional bonus grants from Cash for Kids, with thousands of pounds available for the highest fundraising teams and those hitting key milestones.

Robert McIlvenna, youth convenor at Irvine RFC, said: "Being selected for the Cash for Kids Sports Challenge is a huge boost for our club and for the young people we support.

"Cost pressures are affecting grassroots sport more than ever, and many families simply can’t afford kit, membership or transport.

"This challenge helps us remove those barriers and ensure every child — regardless of background — can access rugby, community, and the confidence‑building environment our Youth Section and diversionary programmes provide."

Irvine RFC will run a series of fundraising activities throughout the challenge, with details to be announced across the club’s social media channels. 

Local residents can lend support by attending fundraising events, donating online, or helping share the club’s campaign.
