LOCALS have been left in shock after thieves allegedy targetted the crematorium in Dreghorn in the early hours of Sunday, July 16.

The Holmsford Bridge Crematorium in the village shared the disappointing news on social media earlier today (Monday, July 17).

They said it was with "great sadness" that the crematorium garage was broken into shortly before 1am on Sunday - and that "all of our equipment was stolen".

It was added that the intruders visited the crematorium on two occasions on Sunday morning - with a second time of 3.30-4.10am mentioned.

The crematorium say that the items stolen had a total value of around £13,000.

The funeral service and cemetery say they have handed over CCTV showing visuals of the individuals responsible over to police - they are still looking for more information which may assist officers following the break-in.

They said: "It is believed that their vehicle was parked at our entry gate or on our drive way where there is no CCTV therefore ask if anyone passing our crematorium around this time with dash cam footage who is able to check to help identify these individuals."

The crematorium is located just off the Corsehill Mount Roundabout on the A71.

They asked that any further information on the incident is passed onto police via the 101 number.

The crematorium also apolgised as they said that due to the breaking on their operation in their grounds will be reduced until equipment can be replaced.

The news has left many locals shocked at the "disgraceful" nature of the break-in.

One local said: "That’s just disgusting. How dare they in a place where people pay their last respects to loved ones."

Police Scotland have been approached for comment on the alleged break-in.
