It seems Venus Williams doesn't just provide powerful returns on the tennis courts - her press conference comebacks also pack a punch.

In a volley between a journalist and the former world number one, Williams made it plain she didn't appreciate the line of questioning and quickly shut the conversation down.

The media Q&A came on Friday night after the 42-year-old partnered with Jamie Murray to down Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus 6-3 6-7 (3) 6-3 in the first round of the mixed doubles at the All England Club.

The journalist was interested to find out if the pair had their sights set on the title, or if they were currently just looking to exceed what their tennis player siblings achieved in the 2019 tournament.

He asked: "Are you guys in it to win it or is the first target just to get past the third round, where Serena and Andy came a cropper."

At this point, Williams' facial expressions disclosed how she felt about being asked this particular question, replying: "What kind of question is that? We're in it for a stroll, like, c'mon."

The reporter attempts to get his query back on track, saying: "Are you here for the experience or are you gonna go all the way?"

Causing an erruption of laughter from the press pack, Williams asks her own question, responding with: "Are you gonna write a good article or just a halfway decent one?"

Valiantly battling on, the reply comes: "I'll do what I usually do."

And in the perfect 'mic drop' moment, the seven-time Grand Slam winner simply replies: "Us too."

End of conversation.

Murray and Williams will face British pairing Jonny O’Mara and Alicia Barnett at around 3.35pm today (July 3), on court 2.
