An electrician has shared a common mistake that can lead to safety issues in your home.
James Harrison at Fusion Electrical has revealed a common plug socket mistake that is often overlooked, yet a significant issue.
“Many people don’t realise that incorrectly installed or faulty plug sockets are a major fire risk,” said James.

“It’s not just about the immediate danger, but the potential financial fallout from damage caused by electrical fires.”
“Homeowners sometimes try to save money by buying low-quality plug sockets or using DIY kits that aren’t up to standard. These products can fail quickly, causing short circuits or overheating.
“Even the best sockets can become dangerous if they are not installed correctly. Loose wiring or poor connections can generate heat and spark fires," he says.
The consequences of ignoring socket safety can be devastating. “If a fire starts due to faulty wiring, insurance companies may refuse to pay out if they find the electrical work was not done by a certified professional,” explains James.

“That means the homeowner faces the full cost of repairs, which can run into thousands.”
To stay safe, James recommends regular checks on all plug sockets, especially in older homes.
“If you notice any signs of damage, such as scorch marks, flickering lights, or a burning smell, get a qualified electrician to inspect your wiring immediately," he says.
“Don’t underestimate the importance of using the right products and hiring professionals. It’s a small investment for peace of mind and protection against expensive disasters.”
