Vanessa Feltz’s daytime talk show on Channel 5 has been cancelled after just over one year on air for several reasons.

The programme, simply titled Vanessa, launched last March and covered topics such as celebrity, parenting and gossip.

Channel 5 confirmed the show will be “rested” from July 17 due to changes in its afternoon schedule.

It has been reported that the broadcaster has decided not to renew the series going forward, the Daily Mail claiming the decision was due to low ratings as well as issues with nuisance calls.

A spokesman for Channel 5 said: "Due to afternoon scheduling changes, Vanessa will be rested from July 17th.

"We thank Vanessa and her team at ITN for 18 months of warm, witty, wise and searingly honest shows.

"Vanessa remains a valued member of the 5 family and we are discussing future projects together."

The series marked Feltz’s return to fronting a daily talk show, something she last did in the late 1990s with BBC One’s The Vanessa Show.

She left her regular spot on ITV’s This Morning to focus on the Channel 5 programme, but said she had hoped to continue both roles.

Ms Feltz told Metro: "I would happily have stayed and gone on the back of a motorbike from the This Morning studio straight to Channel 5 and done both.

"I almost believed I’d be able to do that, but I think apparently, it’s not the way it’s done… but I’d have done it, and I think they would have been happy for me to do it too."

She stressed there was no bad feeling about her exit from ITV, adding: "I love doing it, they like me, we all love each other.

"It’s only to do with the fact that I’ve got this opportunity to do a new show, but I love it there."

Who is Vanessa Feltz?

Feltz fronted her own ITV and BBC chat shows (Vanessa, The Vanessa Show, Vanessa’s Real Lives), earning the “British Oprah” tag for audience‑driven, emotional talk TV in the 1990s and 2000s.

Alongside that, she became a familiar face on mainstream shows like The Big Breakfast, The Wright Stuff and This Morning, and a staple of reality and competition TV via Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing.
