It can often just be luck if you get something from the popular bakery chain Greggs that is pipping hot.
You might be served up a pastry or sausage roll that is more lukewarm or even quite cold.
The brand has over 2,770 stores across the UK with customers enjoying its pastries and sandwiches for very low prices.
Greggs has revealed why some pastries are not served very hot, and it actually benefits customers.
Why are Greggs sausage rolls and pastries often not served hot?
In its frequently asked questions section on its website, Greggs answers what many customers are wondering: why wasn’t my sausage roll hot?
The website says: “We sell savouries which are freshly baked in our shop ovens then put on the shelf to cool.
“We don’t keep our savouries in a heated environment, or use heat retaining packaging, or market them as hot, as they are simply freshly baked throughout the day then left to cool.
“As bakers we believe that baking our savouries fresh each day gives customers the best quality savoury.
“If the sausage rolls and pasties were kept hot after they had been baked, then they would be subject to VAT and the customer would have to be charged a higher price, in the same way that we charge VAT on our hot sandwiches which are kept in a heated cabinet and are subject to VAT.”
Freshly baked food that is left out to cool is zero-rated for VAT and therefore, if Greggs kept the items warm or reheated them, it would cause the 20% “pastry tax” to be applied making your food cost a bit extra.
This means getting lukewarm pastries is just Greggs’ way of keeping prices lower for customers.

If Greggs kept its food hot, sausage rolls would be put up by 27p and bakes could be increased by 46p.
While you might not be too bothered about getting cold pastries or even prefer them to be a little cooler, if you are bothered about this, you can ask what the last thing that was cooked was.
