Alongside new judge Nigella Lawson being added to the Great British Bake Off, Channel 4 has announced its spin-off has been axed.
It has been confirmed that Extra Slice, that used to be hosted by Jo Brand and Tom Allen, will not be returning for 2026.
Instead, the spin-off show has been replaced by the “revamped” Second Helpings.
The new show will air on the same night as The Great British Bake Off, straight after the episode has finished.
Who will host Bake Off’s show Second Helpings?
Second Helpings will be hosted by Bake Off superfan Jon Richardson and Judi Love, who have both starred on The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer.
The series will see the hosts sharing their thoughts on the latest episodes’ biggest talking points and best bakes.
A celebrity guest will join the two presenters each week to talk about all of the dramatic moments from inside the Bake Off tent.
Second Helpings will also provide exclusive content from the Bake Off hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding and the judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson.
Jon Richardson said: “Bake Off is an institution.
"Jo Brand is a comedy God.
“Together with Tom Allen, they have made a spin‑off show that is warm, witty and unique.
“I pity the poor sap they lure into stepping into those shoes.”
On the role, Judi Love said: “I’ve been lucky enough to be in the tent a few times and work alongside Jon, both were pure joy!
“Joining the show to talk all things baking and celebrate showstopping bakes, including some unique spins sounds like absolute blast.
“I can’t wait to get started and of course eat a few cakes or whatever treats they may have.”
Senior Commissioning Editor, Channel 4, Vivienne Molokwu said, “We have revamped Extra Slice by giving it a brand-new shape and a brand-new home.
“Second Helpings will be available on the same night as Bake Off, meaning viewers don’t have to wait long to chew over what’s gone down in the tent.
“With the deliciously funny Jon and Judi at the helm we’ll all have a hilarious time talking all things sweet treats.”
When will Bake Off 2026 start?
One of the best things about autumn starting is the return of the Great British Bake Off.
Last year, the popular baking show started in the first week of September.
However, for 2026, fans are still waiting for Channel 4 to confirm the start date of the programme.
While a start date has not yet been confirmed, Channel 4 posted a video on its Instagram page with the caption: “Right, that’s it, summer’s over because THE BAKE IS BACK.

“A brand new series of The Great British Bake Off starts next month on Channel 4 #GBBO.”
It seems likely that the new series of Bake Off will start nearer the end of September.
