A CAMPAIGN to get young people in North Ayrshire to vote in next year’s Scottish Parliament elections is underway with the help of technology.
For the first time, 16 and 17-year-olds have been given the chance to vote in a national election and to ensure that as many young people are registered to vote as possible, North Ayrshire Council are promoting the introduction of the new voting app.
it is hoped that the app will ensure that all those now eligible to vote will grab hold of the opportunity to take part in 2016’s vote, with the Scottish Parliament lowering the voting age after the success of giving 16 and 17 year olds the vote in last year’s Scottish independence referendum.
Elma Murray, Returning Officer for North Ayrshire, said: “No one should miss out on their legal right to be part of the democratic process and I would encourage those who will be 16 and 17 by next May to activate their legal right to vote by downloading the new voting app.” Voters with a Young Scot NEC card can get reward points by downloading the app, at www.moderndemocracy.co.uk/ayrshire_valuation_joint_board.htm
