Dembele, 22, made an acrimonious deadline day exit from Celtic on August 30 after he signed a five-year deal with Lyon worth a Scottish record of £20 million.
Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers maintained there were no promises made to the Frenchman regarding a move as the player left the club on a sour note.
