ON this weeks Talk In, Peter’s guest was local MP Brian Donohoe.

Naturally, the first topic was Labour’s problems in Scotland with Brian making it clear he had no intention of standing as leader of Labour in Scotland.

Peter suggested Labour were on the run with members deserting in their droves to the SNP but Brian refuted that, while conceding they could have done better in the Referendum campaign.

Brian had chatted to former Prime Minister Gordon Brown as he wanted Gordon to stand. He kept his cards close to his chest regarding the three candidates!

Colin was first to call Brian. He alleged “lies” had been told by Labour during the Referendum campaign as such no one would trust them again. This was totally rejected by Brian.

Ian then took Brian to task on the minimum wage and the living wage and called on Brian to support and endorse a minimum wage of £10. Brian responded by asking Ian if he was working and how long he’d been unemployed. Ian told him to mind his own business!

The chat with Peter then turned to Prestwick Airport’s future. Peter suggested it was now a white elephant and no further tax payers money should be used. Brian disagreed, he believes the airport can turn its fortunes around and will be successful in years to come.

Ciaran Shanks from the Irvine Times called and talked through some of this weeks big local stories and in particular Brian explained why he’s calling for a summit to discuss the Travellers illegal camping.

David Ritchie phoned to express his concern over the possibility of Drones interfering with civilian aircraft. Brian assured him our airspace is rigorously policed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Angela called to take Brian to task on his salary and expenses, when so many of his constituents rely on benefits and foodbanks. She also alleged she had sent Brian e mails and received no reply. Brian apologised and promised to deal with her emails. He did however explain that a lot of his expenses were incurred in running his constituency.

It was a busy two hours for Peter and Brian with some very lively calls!

This Sunday, Peter will be in holiday mode, as he co-presents a holiday special with Scotland’s top travel expert, Willie Stewart and his team.
