AFTER having completed the Eglinton 5k park run last week with no ill effects Sandra Murphy of Irvine jogging group Rons Runners decided to try pastures new and travelled to Devilla Forest to enter the 5k trail race within the forest.

Travelling with Sandra, Sylvia Mulholland entered the Carnegie Harriers’ Devilla Forest 15km which is run at the same time. Problems encountered during the race meant the route was shortened by about 1500m and Sylvia crossed the line with a time of 70:00 Centered at the Scottish Police College in Tulliallan the trails form an anticlockwise fairly flat loop round the Moor Loch.

Once more Sandra accomplished the main task of simply being able to finish and although slightly slower than she thought was never the less delighted to record a time of 40mins and 48secs.

Nearer home Paul Lafferty was first home of the five members who entered the local 5k event and finished in 22:20 followed by Astrud Gibson 29:10. Frances Rodman showed real form recording 29:54 well ahead of her training partner Ann Hay 32:11.

Last member home was Anita Mackie who was again running to keep her young daughter Pippa company round the course. Anita was credited with a time of 37:14 but was unable to beat Pippa 37:00 in the final dash for the line.

Rons Runners meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm at the Asda end of the mall. New members of all abilities are welcome to join training sessions. On Sundays the club meets at 10:00am at the beach park car park at the Big Idea Bridge.
