IRVINE Meadow FC 2001’s played in their first competitive matches at the recent Land O' Burns Football Festival and celebrated major success.
They had a new coaching team in place and some additional players added to the squad.
Winning two out of three group games they then met Prestwick BC, who will be one of their biggest rivals next season, in the Scotland Trophy Final.
The early play was controlled by Meadow, who were 2-0 up after 15 minutes, with goals from Willie Nelson and Dylan Murray. There was a barrage of corners from Robbie Hannah and we they could have further ahead after some headers hit the bar and went narrowly wide.
Against the run of play and towards end of the first half Prestwick came back into the game and started controlling the midfield, leading to a goal just before the break
The second half saw Prestwick in control early on and scoring two goals to take the lead.
Meadow then went down to 10 men after a second yellow card, but managed to get control of the game in the final five minutes, equalising through Callum Robertson with three minutes to go
The game went to penalty kicks, with Irvine Meadow winning 3-1 after Prestwick missed their first two efforts.
It was a good match played in difficult conditions and there will be more battles ahead with the new season starting this coming Sunday.
Meanwhile Irvine Meadow 2006's also played in the non-competitive seven-a-side section at the Land O' Burns event, which was played at Rozelle.
