CUMBERNAULD UNITED 2

IRVINE MEADOW 2

A LAST gasp leveller denied new boss Brian McGinty a second straight victory.

Before the game the two teams observed a minute's silence in memory of 1973 Meadow Scottish Cup-winning goalie Ian Hay following his death last week.

The home side began well and missed a few early chances.

However Medda then created an opening, with Ryan Carnwath shooting just wide following a good attack.

Winters came close to firing Cumbernauld ahead but had an effort cleared off the line by Begley.

cleared off the line by Ryan Begley.

However in 40 minutes Cumbernauld took the lead.

Three minutes later Eddie McTernan levelled with a vintage strike from 25 yards which gave the home goalie no chance.

Just after the break, visiting striker James Marks shot narrowly wide for Medda.

However Meadow kept battling and took the lead when super sub Ben Black with his first two touches took the ball into the box and fired a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Just when the visitors looked like taking all three points, Cumbernauld levelled late on to snatch a point.
