IRVINE Junior Badminton Club hosted their first half court championships on Friday at Irvine Royal Academy.
This competition was aimed at Primary School players competing for the first time. It was for P4 to to P7 youngsters and split into four categories: P4-5 Girls, P4-5 Boys, P6-7 girls and P6-7 Boys.
There were 31 entries from North, South and East Ayrshire with a high standard of play.
In the initial stages players were split onto pools with winner of pools playing in the semi-finals and then final.
Prizewinners were as follows:
Boys P4-5, winner: Rory Meldrum, runner up Connor Miller
Girls P4-5, winner: Esther Meldrum; runner-up: Christina Gillespie
Boys P6-7, winner: Ewan Rowley; runner-up: Tristan Chan
Girls P6-7, winner Keira Paterson; runner-up: Lara Alcroft
The local club work in partnership with North Ayrshire Active Schools and have badminton breakfast and after-school clubs at Castlepark, Woodlands, Glebe, St Mark's Annick, Loudoun Montgomery and Corsehill Primary Shool and a new club starting in January at Abbey Primary in Kilwinning.
All sessions are finished for the Christmas holidays and resume on Tuesday, January 9 in Irvine Royal Academy.
