MOTHERWELL 0

KILMARNOCK 1

IMPRESSIVE Killie are on the crest of a wave.

Steve Clarke's team are the form team in the Premiership, having taken 23 of their last 30 possible points following this hard-fought win against a Motherwell side who are just below them in seventh place.

Steven O'Donnell scrambled out of his sick bed to fire the winner at Fir Park and keep their dreams of reaching the top six very much alive.

Clarke said later: "I got a phone call in the morning from the physio to say that Stephen had been sick overnight. Stephen said to me he would give it a go and all credit to him for that. In terms of his goal you don't see too many cleanly struck daisy cutters like that these days. I tended to put mine in the top corner - they were more spectacular!"

More than 1200 Killie fans journeyed to Lanarkshire for the game and they were saluted by the former West Brom boss who said: "They were singing first minute to last and and the players hear that when they are jaded and that sort of noise makes a difference."

Much of the first half was low key with both sides battling but few chances being created.

However in 34 minutes home player Curtis Main lost possession to O'Donnell and he stunned home goalie Trevor Carson by fizzing a 25-yard rocket into the right hand corner of the net. Motherwell then ended the first half strongly, however home goalie Jamie MacDonald had little to do. Chris Cadden had a good opening for 'Well, but his shot spun out of play for a throw-in and the opportunity was lost.

In the second half, Motherwell surged forward, however defenders Stuart Findlay and Scott Boyd held firm, putting their bodies on the line.

KILMARNOCK: MacDonald; O'Donnell, Broadfoot, S Boyd, Findlay, McKenzie, Mulumbu, Taylor, Jones, Brophy, K Boyd. Subs: Fasan, Erwin, Burke, Waters, Simpson, Kiltie, Wilson.
