EXPERIENCED striker Bryan Boylan is hoping to form a lethal partnership with former opponent Marc McKenzie at Kilwinning Rangers in the coming season.

The duo will join forces at Abbey Park as Buffs aim to add to last season's success which saw them lift the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup - their first trophy success in five years.

Boylan is looking forward to the start of the new campaign, which will see his side line up in the Sectional League Cup against Ardeer Thistle, Largs Thistle and Saltcoats Vics with the Premiership opener away to Petershill on Saturday, August 8.

The target man said: "I remember playing against Marc last season and the thing that struck me about him is he has as lot of pace. Arthurlie didn't have a good season but this will be a new challenge for him. Hopefully we can team up well together and score some goals. I think he is a very good addition to our squad."

While last season saw some success and the crowds really getting behind the team, Boylan says this is only the beginning.

He added: "We will be aiming to win trophies in the new season and we take league cup seriously. We look forward to the games, which will be a good test."

Training at Abbey Park is being taken this week by SFA Director of Football Development, Jim Fleeting. His son Barry, the assistant boss and Abbey Park manager Chris Strain are both on holiday.

Boylan commented: "It's great to have someone of Jim's experience taking the training and we are working hard on the usual things."

Meanwhile Irvine Victoria have made three new signings in the past few days as manager Brian McLuckie puts his stamp on the team.

On board are goalkeeper Ryan McCann, former Ardeer Thistle striker James Maxwell and ex-Ardrossan Winton Rovers defensive midfielder Gavin Sim.

Boss Brian McLuckie said: "They are all quality additions to the squad and we will be using the next couple of weeks to have a look at some other players in action."

Vics are in friendly action for the first time on Saturday when they host Shettleston, with the game kicking off at 2pm.

Irvine Meadow resume training tonight (Tuesday) after enjoying a welcome break after their promotion play-off win.

On view will be new signings Mikey White, Andy McLaughlin and Ciaron Smith.
