KILMARNOCK 2

NEW signing Greg Stewart got one over one his old team with a goal as Killie deservedly chalked up their first league win against the Dons in almost six years.

The striker, who spent last season on loan at Pittodrie scored just before the break to help pave the way for a famous win.

He said later: "You could say the writing was on the wall for me to come back and score. I have mates here and it often works out that way when you go back to your old club. You always think you will get a goal."

Added boss Steve Clarke: "It's nice to come up here and win. It has been a long time since Kilmarnock beat Aberdeen so it's good to put that to bed."

The Dons got off to the worst possible start as home player Mikey Devlin was sent off in just five minutes for pulling back Eamonn Brophy inside the box.

Brophy then came close three times for Killie, with home goalie Joe Lewis tipping his header wide and then blocking his turn and shot before beating the goalie with a long range shot only to watch it come agonisingly off the post.

Visiting goalie Jamie MacDonald then tipped a Niall McGinn free-kick wide.

Killie went ahead in 44 minutes when Graeme Shinnie fouled Brophy, who curled the resultant free-kick into the bottom right hand corner.

Then in 69 minutes Stewart went on a long solo run and finished spectacularly to seal the win.
