West of Scotland Cup First Round

DIRRANS ATHLETIC 1

ST PATRICK'S FP AFC 2 (after extra-time)

A DETERMINED Dirrans side, boosted by the return to their ranks of former manager Jason Stewart, pushed the visitors all the way in the second most prestigious cup competition.

St Pat's dominated first half scoring in eight minutes but new recruit Stewart, who has returned as a player, marshalled the visiting defence to restrict St Pat's to shots from outside the box.

Dirrans came into it in the second half and deservedly equalised from a great Greg Kean header.

Dirrans had a great chance to win it in normal time but the St Pat's goalie pulled off a great save from a deflected Chris Bennett shot.

St Pat's won the game in extra-time when they scored in the first minute of the second period.

This was a great, battling performance against one of the country’s leading amateur outfits which should give Dirrans some confidence going forward.
