WORRIED Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty has no plans to walk away, despite his team hitting a new low on Saturday.

They suffered a 7-0 hammering away to a Largs Thistle side who were promoted with them to the Premiership at Barrfields Park.

Now they are anchored in bottom spot with a solitary point from eight games.

Meadow and their fans must quickly re-group as they head to Govan's McKenna Park on Saturday to face St Anthony's in a Scottish Junior Cup second round tie.

McGinty remains hopeful his team's fortunes will turn around, but admits they need wins and admits he is trying to pinpoint the source of their problems."

He told Sportscene: "That was an embarrassing result and we should not be losing 7-0 at Largs. After conceding a penalty we lost another poor goal and Ryan Begley's red-card made it very difficult for us. We were missing key players like Eddie McTernan, Darren Miller, Graham Boyd, Jordan McGuire and Mark McLennan and had to bring in some of the younger guys. We can't just go out and replace them with players from other clubs."

He insists the club are going in the right direction despite the disappointing form run and added: "I have only been in the job for less than a year and in January we were third bottom of the First Division, that's how far we have come. The team are a year ahead of schedule. But I have no intention of walking away, I won't do that, I have faith in the players, I'm the boss and have to find out what's wrong and fix it.

"I will consider strengthening the squad. One fan has given me a lot of flak after games but most punters I speak to have been supportive of what we are trying to do at the club."

Looking ahead he said: "We must start picking up points in the league and our aim is to finish above the bottom three and stay up. The Scottish Cup is very important to Irvine Meadow and it's a big game for us on Saturday, it will be a break from the league. We should be capable of going to St Anthony's and winning and that's what we aim to do."
