RYAN Collins looked on proudly as his cousin Nathaniel "The Nightmare"Collins made a winning professional debut at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley on Saturday night.

However his hopes of ensuring a dream family night by winning the Celtic Lightweight title were shattered when he lost out to unfancied Glasgow fighter Ahmed Ibrahim in the fifth round after the fight was stopped owing to a serious eye injury.

And to rub salt in his not inconsiderable wounds, Ibraham only won the contest not the title, as he had failed to make the weight on Friday.

Roared on by a strong Irvine support, Collins, after a tentative start, had his opponent on the back foot and he threw a few telling punches to take command in the opening round of the contest.

In the second round Collins began well and although Ibrahim caught him with some punches, I gave the Irvine fighter that one as well. However during that round, Collins suffered an eye injury from a punch, which would worsen as it went on.

The third round was very even until Collins knocked Ibrahim down and he got up on an eight count. There was a role reversal late in the fourth round when Collins was floored by a strong punch. But by this point, his eye looked shut. They came out for the fifth round but just two seconds in the referee stopped the contest because of the injury following intervention from the doctor.

It was the second time Collins had failed to land the Celtic Lightweight title after two head clashes with Charlie Flynn and with Ibrahim unable to win it, you wonder if the crown is jinxed.
