RELIEVED Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty hopes his side's first league win can spark a revival in their fortunes.

Meadow defeated bitter rivals Kilwinning Rangers 1-0 to move just a point behind second bottom Renfrew with a game in hand.

The boss was impressed with his team's performance but admitted the squad was stretched.

He said: "Kilwinning are a very good side but I felt we totally dominated the game and deserved our win. I thought Darren Miller and Callum Gow in the centre of defence were outstanding. But we had just 12 fit players although that's not something we have made a big deal about. We have the likes of Rhys Devlin, Eddie McTernan and Graham Boyd and Mark McLennan out injured and we can't just go out and buy players to replace them. I have tried to add to the squad but a lot of the demands from players are too high."

Irvine Victoria boss Brian McLuckie can take positives from his team's display, despite their 3-2 defeat away to Cumbernauld United.

He said: "We played really well and deserved to take something from the game. We should have had a penalty at 2-1 to them when Kevin Adam was brought down in the box."

Vics visit Championship leaders Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday and McLuckie added: "It will be a test but we look forward to the game."
