POSITIVE Irvine Vics assistant boss Mark McCann hopes the weekend demolition of basement team Larkhall Thistle will spark a revival in their fortunes.

The Westenders moved up to fifth bottom spot in the McBookie Championship following Saturday's 5-1 victory against a side they defeated 6-1 away earlier in the season.

McCann said: "It was a really good win, especially when you consider we played the last 35 minutes with 10 men owing to injuries. We scored some cracking goals and this victory should give us confidence."

Ross McKenzie and Ross Loughlin should return to the squad for Saturday's short trip to Recreation Park to face Darvel.

However Jamie Donnelly and David Anderson are struggling to make it.

The hosts are bossed by former Irvine Meadow manager Chris Strain snr.

The Vics number two added: "Darvel have had some good results and beat Whitburn on Saturday. They have picked up some wins recently and it will be tough.

"But our aim has always been consolidation in this league and we also have to limit the number of goals we're losing, although we did that on Saturday.

"We don't fear it and must go to Darvel looking to take something from the game."
