SCOTT ARFIELD is pleased with the progress that Rangers are making after recording their biggest win of the campaign against Motherwell at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard’s side stormed to a 7-1 victory over the Steelmen as they moved to within two points of Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Premiership standings.

Arfield netted his fourth and five goals of the season, while Eros Grezda also hit a brace and James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Glenn Middleton found the scoresheet.

The win came just hours after Celtic were held to a goalless draw by Livingston but Arfield was only concerned about the job in hand for the Light Blues.

He said: “At this football club, we are always thinking about that [a title challenge]. We need to be as close as possible going into the end of December and we will see what happens.

“This football club is built on success and tradition and that is why I signed up for this, why the boys signed up for this, to be successful and bring the glory days back to this club.

“I think there were 15 new faces as well as a new manager and his staff so it has taken a lot of time to keep building.

“But it shows what we have got, not just as players but as human beings to take this and make this club the best it has been in many years. It was up to us to do that as a team and as men and I think we are very close.

“I wasn’t aware of the [Celtic] result until after the game. It is not something we are focused on whatsoever. I saw the fixture on Saturday and knew it would be difficult to go to Livingston with the way that they play and the surface there. It is what it is.

“There are going to be days where we have good days and they have bad days. Our focus is completely on this football club and to make it the best as possible.”
