UPBEAT Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty can take positives from his team's 1-0 home defeat against Glenafton Athletic.

And he feels they were unlucky to leave empty-handed.

McGinty said: "I didn't think there was much in the game but, did we do enough to win it? Probably not. There wasn't much between the teams and the penalty was probably a soft one, but I would have been shouting for it up the other end.

"It is just one of these things, sometimes you get a decision and other times you don't."

Added the manager: "We never created enough chances but it was still a disappointing result and a draw would have been fairer. We have defended well, apart from a couple of slight mistakes, such as trying to take touches in the wrong areas, but our two centre-halves were excellent.

"We just have to pick ourselves up. Glenafton are one of the top teams and we were expected to lose to them but, the way the game went, we should have got at least a point.

"It's just the nature of the game when you are 1-0 down and you throw everything forward - we missed a few chances, but Glenafton were hitting back."

Next up for Meadow is a short trip to Valefield Park to face a Kilbirnie Ladeside team managed by their former player Liam McGuinness.
