Kilwinning Rangers U19s produced a spectacular comeback to progress through into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

The Buffs travelled to Blantyre SA looking to make it through to the quarter final of the competition for a second year in a row.

However, despite their chances in the first half it was the hosts that went into the break one goal to the good.

Kilwinning’s unrelenting pressure did pay off in the second period however, when Jack McAlpine set up Magnus Ward to score with a pinpoint cross.

The away side’s lead did not last for long though, as three minutes later Blantyre were back ahead.

The Buffs rallied again and grabbed an equaliser with ten minutes to go via the head of Alex Dean.

The tie then went straight to spot kicks with Devlin Wraith saving Blantyre’s first effort in the shootout to put the away side in control.

The Buffs then scored their next four penalties, as did the hosts, leaving it up to Luke Bolton to win the match.

He scored and set up a last eight home tie against Easterhouse Football Academy, which will be played on January 23.
