Dirrans Athletic AFC manager Jason Stewart says he is targeting cup glory after his side progressed to the next round of the Donsport Trophy at the weekend.

The Dirrans welcomed Mauchline United to the Kilwinning Sports Club astro on Saturday afternoon for the second round tie in the cup competition.

The hosts picked up a 3-1 comeback win thanks to a goal from Logan Stevenson and a double from Ian Cashmore to see them into the third round.

Speaking to the Times, Stewart said: “We won the Donsport Trophy five or six years ago. We actually did the double and won the Donsport and the James Scott in the same year.

“So, it would be great to try and do it again but there is a long way to go at the moment.

“The talk before the game was just to make sure we were still in the hat afterwards.

“I knew Mauchline were going to be a tough side and they had a few ex Junior players.”

The manager revealed: “We started pretty poorly in the first 10/15 minutes we went one nil down but I think after that we controlled most of the ball and kept it well.”
