Two young Irvine boxers have returned from the Western District Championships with gold medals.

Jamie Bingham of the Irvine Elite Boxing Club beat George Willis of South Side Boys Club in the final of the youth 2007 80kg category.

And Jamie's clubmate, TJ Duffield, beat Jamie Munroe of Kilsyth BC in the 60kg schoolboy 2016 category on a unanimous decision from the judges.

For both youngsters the scale of their success was made greater because it was their first experience of open competition

Irvine Elite Boxing Club's head coach Joe Affleck said: "Both boys trained hard for the last six weeks, preparing for these championships, as it was their first time entering an open tournament.

"We are proud of them both getting the gold medals."

The club offers beginner and amateur training and general fitness classes. To find out more see the 'Irvine Elite Boxing Club' page on Facebook.
