THIS weekend was as perfect as they come for Ayrshire's rugby union sides.
In the penultimate round of fixtures before the Christmas break, every side from the county who played on Saturday, December 7, picked up a vital win.
It started out in the National Premiership, where Ayr RFC were looking to get back on track after surrendering their unbeaten record last weekend.
Conditions made life difficult at Millbrae as the South Ayrshire side took on Watsonian.
The match was level heading into the dying minutes before Seth Rae crashed over to hand Ayr a 12-7 victory.
Elsewhere in the division, Marr RFC were out of action with the weather making travel unsafe for their scheduled visitors Hawick RFC.
The weather also meant Garnock RFC were left without a fixture in National Division Three, with their visit to Cartha Queens Park postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
In National Division Four, however, Ardrossan Accies managed to beat the weather and travel east to take on North Berwick.
It was worth the journey for Andrew Duncan's side who kept their title dreams alive with a 45-15 victory on Saturday.
Into the regional leagues and Kilmarnock RFC kept their spot atop the West League Division One.
Killie travelled to face Cambuslang and an emphatic 67-5 win was enough to maintain their one point advantage over Lenzie in first place.
Saturday also saw an impressive return to form for Cumnock RFC, who welcomed Oban Lorne to East Ayrshire this weekend.
An impressive 45-7 win for the home side lifted them up to sixth place in the standings.
In West Division Two, just two games beat the weather - with Carrick RFC's fixture away to Birkmyre one of those to fall foul to the wet conditions.
However, Irvine's trip to Loch Lomond/Helensburgh went ahead as planned - and the North Ayrshire outfit will be glad that was the case.
A hard fought 36-26 victory was just their third this season and has lifted Irvine to within just two points of the top half of the table.
