A YOUTH football team from Kilwinning has launched a fundraising appeal after the club was hit with unexpected costs.
Kilwinning Rangers 2010 believed that they would have a Scottish Cup quarter-final to look forward to this month.
They earned a place in the last eight after a hard-fought win on penalties over Stirling Albion Junior Academy Red in the previous round - or so they thought.
Their opponents from the previous fixture - which was played last month - went on to appeal the match result in light of "a refereeing mistake".
A Scottish Youth Football Association panel then decided that the tie should be replayed this weekend - a decision which was made only days before the young Buffs quarter-final tie was due to take place.
Kilwinning had looked to make their own appeal but were informed that they were unable to do so as this would “interrupt playing of a cup competition".
Now, with the replayed fixture to take place on Saturday, February 15, the club are facing a a number of unexpected costs.
Unlike the original tie, this latest clash will be held away from home - in Stirling.
"We need to raise £1,500 to cover transportation and match costs," a club spokesperson explained.

"As a grassroots team, we do not have the funds to cover this unplanned expense and we are asking for your support to ensure our young players get the opportunity they have worked so hard for.

A Gofundme page for donations has now been set up online - with the club's fundraising target very nearly met just 24-hours after going live.
Any cash raised over the required amount will be donated to Kilwinning Community Sport Club.
