KILWINNING Rangers 'Madrid' 2010 had a lot to celebrate over the weekend as they earned a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
The young Buffs side earned a spot in the final four of the top national competition on Saturday as they welcomed Stirling Albion Junior Academy Red to town.
In a tightly contested match, played in front of a large crowd on the Ian Cashmore AstroTurf at Kilwinning Community Sports Club, Josh Strain got the home side off to a dream start as he scored the opener after just 11 minutes.
Though the joy was short lived for the under-16 side as the visitors levelled the tie just 10 minutes later.
Despite the frantic start, there would be no further scoring and the tie headed straight to penalties.
From there, Kilwinning showed excellent composure to earn a memorable win for the club.
It is a result which may sound familiar, with the two clubs having met in the same competition almost exactly one year ago.
The tie was a controversial last-16 clash which the young Buffs thought they had won via the penalty spot.
However, Stirling Albion went on to appeal the result due to a "refereeing mistake" made during the shootout.
The led to a replay being ordered, which Kilwinning lost - missing out on their place in the last eight.
The feeling of payback is something which would have added to the good feeling of this year's rematch.
The team also earned congratulations from Kilwinning Rangers' senior side.
A spokesperson said: "Huge congratulations to our under-16s, who defeated Stirling Albion on penalties to book their place in the National Cup semi-finals.
"A fantastic crowd turned out at the Ian Cashmore Astro to support the boys.
"With no extra time, the match went straight to penalties — and the young Buffs showed great composure to come out on top."
The semi-final draw, in which Kilwinning are the only Ayrshire side, will be made at a later date.
